SC Department of Public Safety Regional Career Specialist / Student Services Program Coordinator I in Sumter County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities


DESCRIPTION: The Regional Career Specialist (RCS) serves as liaison between SC Department of Education, Office of Career and Technology Education (CATE), and the region’s school districts to ensure coordination, accountability, and delivery of career guidance and work-based learning initiatives as outlined in Perkins IV and EEDA legislation. Supports “learning to work” state standards of South Carolina Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program Model to enhance delivery of career development core curriculum standards. Coordinates and presents professional development workshops in CATE and career guidance for educators, guidance personnel, students, and parents. Coordinates Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) course for educators. Assists schools in promoting the goals of quality career development of students in K-12. Supports students in the exploration of career clusters by providing work-site field studies and business/industry connections that support the 16 national cluster of studies. Utilizes career assessments, exploration tools, and printed resources. Provides opportunities for student competitions and ensures compliance with CATE in relation to accountability measures and continuous monitoring of goals and outcomes. This position is under the direct supervision of the Dean of Workforce Development and SC Environmental Training Center. The RCS will be responsible for various projects associated with the Workforce Development Division including coordinating training for local CATE students and assisting with youth apprenticeship programs as needed. The RCS will also assist in the coordination of CCTC events associated with K-12 educators including the Counselor’s Breakfast, 8th Grade Manufacturing Expos, and other events. The RCS will serve on a number of local committees that support initiatives involving K-12.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree. Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Certification required. Preferred: will be allowed to obtain Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) Certification within one year. Valid Driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED: Experience in marketing, social media, and use of technology tools.
