SC Department of Public Safety Highway Maintenance Worker I - General Laborer (61032628) Band 02 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Performs manual labor to assist with the installation and repair of catch basins and other drainage structures and the placement of drainage pipes. Assists with the placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone. Serves as a flagger to safely direct and control traffic in maintenance activities. Performs construction, repair, preservation to asphalt, concrete pavements using proper repair techniques. This work involves the use of hand or pneumatic tools and compaction equipment. Performs a variety of vegetation management activities using equipment such as powered hand tools (i.e chain saws, weed eaters, and backpack herbicide sprayers, etc.) Operates small equipment such as dump ruck, powered tools, and hand tools to perform variety of maintenance activities. Performs other job related duties as assigned by supervisor. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations that may include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Operates a dump truck with a snow plow and sand spreader. Operates a tractor with mower. THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN DISTRICT 3 - SPARTANBURG MAINTENANCE

Minimum and Additional Requirements

There are no minimum training or experience requirements for this c:lasslflcatlon. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class B Commerclal Driver's License (CDL} within six (6) months of placement in the position. Class B CDL must be attained within -six months of placement in the position.

Additional Comments

May be required to work outside of normal working hours. This may Include to worlc nights, weekends, and holidays during lndement weather or emergencies. Employee may be required to Iift up to 50 lbs. Walking, stooping or bending may be required.
