SC Department of Public Safety LEO II K-9 AGENT (#019862) Office of Investigation & Intelligence, Columbia (RICHLAND) in Richland County, South Carolina
Job Responsibilities
Conducts unannounced searches of SCDC institutions, employee and visitor vehicles and other areas as directed.
Responsible for the care of assigned K-9, to include housing, feeding, grooming and overall safety.
Provide weekly intelligence to assistant chief involving institutions assigned area of coverage that need K-9 sweeps.
Initiates arrests and conducted investigations on suspects arrested during K9 operations.
Prepares reports and other documentation for court proceedings.
Maintains assigned state vehicle and equipment to ensure it is clean and in proper working order in accordance with agency policy.
Assists federal, state and local officials in drug interdiction operations.
Assists with locating escaped inmates and fugitives as needed basis.
Conduct K9 drug dog demonstrations to various state and civic organizations.
Other Law Enforcement duties as needed to include investigations.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience. (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree and one (1) year experience in Law Enforcement.
OR
- An Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience in Law Enforcement.
OR
- A High School diploma and Three (3) years of experience in Law Enforcement.
Must be current Class I LEO through the SCCJA or Class II Correctional Officer through *SCDC.*

Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to applicants with prior documented law enforcement, military, or Correctional K-9 experience.
Additional Comments
This position requires travel among facilities/locations within the state. Agents are assigned a permanent vehicle for official use. Some overnight travel for emergency situations or to attend training may be required.
