SC Department of Public Safety ***Human Services Assistant II (Behavioral Health Assistant-A&B)/Float Pool BHA in Richland County, South Carolina
This position is located and worked within the Division of Inpatient Services to include: G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, Morris Village, and W.S. Hall Psychiatric Hospital.
*Seeking Full-Time, flexible candidates to work twelve (12) hour shifts across the South Carolina Department of Mental Health Inpatient Services Campus. *
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will perform therapeutic care, assist patients in meeting their needs, and assist patients performing activities of daily living. Also assist in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
You will demonstrate knowledge of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) and Treatment Plan as it relates to providing nursing care. Participate in quality control monitoring and peer review as assigned.
Responsible for providing care to patients with mental illness, substance abuse, aggressive behavior and/or suicidal tendencies. Demonstrates knowledge of the therapeutic communication skills, taking under consideration age-specific competencies and cultural diverse patients.
Identify the need for and perform basic care/activities of daily living for patients. You will assist in care for patients with physical problems and provide basic care for patients requiring Special Precautions, Seclusion, 4-Point Restraints, supportive Protective Restraints; follows policy on meeting patients' special needs for hygiene, nutrition, toileting, fluids and ADLs.
There are 16 positions available (8 day/8night).
Minimum and Additional Requirements
*State Requirement: * There are no minimum training and experience requirements for this class.
Agency Requirement: Behavioral Health Assistant A- High school diploma or GED; and less than one (1) year of health care related experience.
Behavioral Health Assistant B- Bachelor's degree; or a high school diploma or GED and one year or more of health care related experience.
Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position. Salary may vary depending on experience and qualifications.
Physical Qualifications: Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Must be able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors.
