SC Department of Public Safety Fleet Vehicle Upfitter (Mechanic II) in Richland County, South Carolina
This is a Temporary-Full Time position
Upfitters will be responsible for equipping both new and existing Patrol Vehicles with items such as decals/graphics, bumper systems, radio systems and equipment, blue light equipment, radar systems, camera systems and other essential law enforcement equipment as needed. Responsible for inspecting all vehicles and associated fleet equipment to ensure proper function. Coordinate and complete related repairs as needed. Capable of working from build sheets with the ability to interpret various operations and instructional manuals as needed. Ability to work both independently and in a production line environment.
Receive and equip new DPS Fleet Vehicles from arrival status. Ability to interpret build plans and various operations/installation manuals. Essential equipment to be installed may include , but is not limited to: decals/graphics, bumper systems, radio systems and equipment, blue light equipment, radar systems and equipment, camera systems and equipment and other essential law enforcement equipment as needed.
Troubleshooting and repair of related Law Enforcement equipment specific to DPS vehicles. Coordinating vehicular repairs beyond the scope of essential law enforcement equipment.
Receiving and stripping existing DPS Fleet vehicles of all assigned and/or associated Law Enforcement Equipment.
Responsible for proper maintenance of incoming/outgoing inventory pertaining to vehicle builds and strips. This includes properly verifying and documenting controlled inventory equipment and parts.
Assisting with inventory and DPS Fleet Shop organizational goals.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and working knowledge of automotive electronics.
One (1) or more years of working knowledge of automobiles.
Previous experience with 12-volt electrical systems.
Basic knowledge of the 12-volt application, theory and diagnosis trends.
The ability to work both independently and with a team.
Effective communication/customer service skills.
Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing needs.
Ability to determine when Floor Supervision should be consulted.
