"Seeking Full Time Medical Physicist"
Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System – Spartanburg, SC is seeking a full-time, team-oriented medical physicist to join our practice in providing a full range of clinical medical physics services. SRHS currently has combined staff consists of 5 radiation oncologists, 4 physicists, 5 medical dosimetrists, 11 radiation therapists. The successful candidate will join our team of 3 other physicist providing support between our Spartanburg and Pelham clinics. The candidate will have a home base at Spartanburg but will be cross covering between the two sites as needed. Staff at both sites stagger work hours to maintain clinic coverage. The sites provide a wide range of procedures including VMAT, SRS, SBRT, HDR, and SpaceOAR injections.
Spartanburg - 1 Varian Truebeam with Identify Surface guidance, 1 Siemens Oncor, 1 Accuray Tomotherapy unit, 1 Elekta/Nucletron Microselectron HDR with Oncentra TPS, 1 Siemens Somatom CT Simulator.
Pelham - 1 Accuray Cyberknife M6 with Precision planning system, 1 Varian Truebeam, and 1 Siemens Somatom Definition AS CT scanner
Both sites use Aria and Eclipse for Treatment planning and Radcalc for their second check.
QA equipment includes SNC Mapcheck2, SNC ArcCheck, Portal Dosimetry, TomoDose, Standard imaging BeamChecker, Mobius Doselab, scanning tanks (3D, 2D, and 1D) using both PTW and IBA scanning software, and a wide array of chambers, electrometers, and QA phantoms.
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
Master’s degree in Medical physics from an accredited college or university
Graduate from a CAMPEP accredited residency program
Strong organization and oral / written communication skills
ABR board eligible
3 years of clinical experience after residency in a robust Radiation Oncology department.
Substantial Varian Truebeam experience
Previous Elekta/ Nucletron HDR planning and treatment experience
Well versed in Varian Aria R&V/Eclipse treatment planning
Core Job Responsibilities:
Provide clinical physics support to the Department of Radiation Oncology, including oversight of dosimetrists in treatment planning processes and therapists in technical aspects of treatment.
Provide Radiation Oncologists with special physics consultations and advise physicians on special treatment procedures and clinical treatment setups.
Ensure calibration and functionality of treatment systems in accordance to national standards and recommendations, a requirement of the RTOG for placement of patients on clinical trials.
Assist physicians with Brachytherapy Implants and perform Brachytherapy Planning and treatment oversight.
Conduct/oversee continuing medical physics support to patients under treatment, to include weekly chart reviews assessment of treatment delivery, and chart closures.
Develop and review treatment procedures. Maintain operating procedures to reduce system downtime and verify the constancy of treatment delivery systems.
Work with the System Radiation Safety Officer to perform equipment calibrations/quality assurance to conform in technique and frequency with DHEC regulations and professional practice guidelines.
Provide expertise in assessment and acquisition of new technologies.
Provide expertise in protocol assessment for research. Participate in protocol implementation.
Provide requisite credentialing support for external protocols, such as RTOG.
Provide clinical instruction to radiation therapy staff, research staff, navigator, and oncology nurses in matters of radiation therapy.
Provide assistance to the Director of Radiation Oncology department in regards to ACR certification and required ACR quality initiatives.
