What you’ll be doing
You will be the product-focused voice on the Balanced Leadership Team for the Tanzu Container Build program, whose vision is to keep VMware Tanzu customers’ application images up-to-date with the latest available upstream dependencies, to ensure that those applications meet individualized security and compliance standards. Tanzu Build Service aims to be hands-off, transparent, flexible, and built on cloud native standards. Tanzu Buildpacks should provide a continuous stream of upstream dependencies and security patches that cover common developer ecosystems. You will lead a team of product managers to define the strategy that we use to deliver quality products.
This will involve responsibility and accountability for:
Collaboratively defining the vision for Tanzu Build Service and Tanzu Buildpacks
Understanding and prioritizing customer problems and needs
Defining Go To Market strategy - entitlements, SKUs, pricing, etc.
Growing, leading and nurturing a team of product managers
Driving product strategy, roadmaps, and high-level product priority
Actively engaging customers and the larger open source community of users.
Advocating for our products
Attending customer calls, visits, events, and conferences
Driving the process of creating and dissolving products
Ensuring that products meet internal and external compliance requirements
Helping teams understand product priorities and timelines
Working at a program level with product leads, technical leads, designers, and people managers in figuring out what to work on next and how to prepare for future work.
Bringing clarity where there is uncertainty, managing risk and continuously delivering value.
Defining experiments, measuring success metrics and using data to inform decisions.
Scope of the role
You will report into the Sr. Director of Product Management for the Secure Software Supply Chain, a Sub pillar within the Developer App Platform MAPBU Organisation.
You will initially manage a team of 2 product managers that will grow over time
You will inherit a program consisting of 5 teams.
You will work alongside with a tenured Technical Lead and a Engineering Lead who have deep knowledge and wide-ranging industry experience in the Build space.
Desired Skills & Experience:

5+ years Product Management experience, or leadership in the developer tooling, software supply chain, and/or application platform spaces
Experience managing teams of product managers or engineers
Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions focused on important customer needs
Ability to communicate comfortably to many different audiences (engineering teams, field, marketing, business development, customer platform leads and CIOs, e-staff, etc)
Exposure navigating large enterprise organizations with an understanding of IT partnerships
Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to coach and mentor others
Ability to work collaboratively with others and navigate complex decision making
Focused on data-driven approaches to solving problems, and accelerating the learning process to validate solutions
Ability to collaborate well with engineers, designers, and other partners
Ability to ramp up quickly in a new domain
Experience with Agile processes (such as Extreme Programming) and/or experience with product processes suitable for large, community-driven OSS projects.
Comfortable with ambiguity. We work in an iterative and incremental way, balancing many different inputs and constantly making trade-offs.
Ability to work with teams in US Eastern Time
Previous experience with tools that build container images, as well as a general understanding of container builds, the cloud-native ecosystem, and Kubernetes are desirable qualities for this role (but are not required)
