We're looking for an enthusiastic Human Services Specialist II for our Greenville County office who serves as a specialist in foster care to plan and execute case work activities to facilitate safety, permanence and well-being of children in the custody of the agency.

The Human Services Specialist II Position functions as a professional level specialist to assess risk and manage safety threats to children in the custody of the agency. Participate in appropriate staffing to determine the best possible plan for children in agency care. Develop a comprehensive case plan to include counseling, referrals, supportive resources, and referrals for foster children, families of origin and foster families or alternative placements as appropriate.

Provide continuous family assessment to carry out the family services intervention plan by monitoring services to the family of origin, foster children and foster parents or placement providers. Make home visits as required by agency policy and applicable laws(s). Provide case management services according to agency policy and procedure.

Engage children and families in development of treatment plans; access services; monitor behavior change; thoroughly document activities for the case file. Remove children from abusive or neglectful homes in order to place them in a protective environment. Assist law enforcement and/or Family Court in emergency removal of children and placement in a protective environment.

Ensure needed services are linked to care providers; participate in supervision and legal consults. Provide permanency planning services to children in a licensed foster care home or licensed facility. Provide casework services to family members to reunify children with families as appropriate. Provide supervisory or oversight follow-up as needed after the children return home. Provide visitation between parents of origin and children.

Prepare court documents; testify in court. Participate in legal proceedings as necessary which may include removal of children, interventions, judicial reviews, permanency planning hearings and contempt hearings in compliance with applicable laws, policies and regulations. Prepare necessary summaries, home studies, judicial reviews, petitions and makes recommendations as needed.

Represents the agency in Court to present testimony. Prepare termination of parental rights (TPR) summaries when adoption is determined to be the plan.

Collaborate with Guardians ad item; law enforcement and service providers. Prepare cases for Foster Care Review Board and Permanency Hearing for the Court. Information is to be presented in a professional manner.

Prepare and present information to the Foster Care Review Board. Maintain case records, case narrative recordings written and electronically (into agency designated system) for documentation and auditing purposes as required by agency policy in a time and accurate manner.

Make required face to face contacts with children, families and providers. Participate in agency and/or professional staffing on cases as required. Participate in activities related to safety, permanency and well-being of children.

Perform after hour on-call duties and responding to after hour calls as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or Social Science.

A Bachelor's Degree in any other field and one (1) year experience in a related field.

Selected positions may prefer a Master's Degree.

Must possess critical thinking skills to be able to productively work with a wide variety of people, to manage conflict, assess risk and safety, and to advocate for children’s needs. Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, statutes and policies related to child welfare. Skills in assessment, strong written and oral communication, interpersonal relationships, collaboration, treatment planning. Ability to collaborate with individuals, families and service agencies in the provision of services. Maintains client and family rights to confidentiality in compliance with State and Federal laws. Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing and able to transport children and adults. Must have the ability to cope with stressful work situations.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a Social Work or Social Welfare Program accredited by the Council on accredited institution, plus experience as a professional Social Worker.
