Pike Corporation Designer II- Transmission in Fort Mill, South Carolina
With direction, responsible for preparing detailed, constructible design packages that comply with applicable transmission engineering design standards and all safety codes for high voltage transmission projects through 500kV. Depending upon the complexity of the project and under the close supervision of senior designers or engineers, the candidate will develop or assist in developing the design deliverables for electric transmission projects – including conceptual transmission line layouts, plan and profiles, structure and foundation designs, bills of material, and construction (IFC) packages. The candidate will work closely with other engineering and design team members to develop the overall design package and prepare detailed, constructible CAD drawings and other engineering documentation. Other duties include checking drawings and other documents and providing direction and guidance to drafters and designers. The candidate must be capable of multitasking while paying strict attention to detail, typically working on two or more projects concurrently in various stages of completion.
Classification Summary:This is the second level of the Designer classification. In addition to the skills required for lower level Designers, the employee performing at this level will possess the technical expertise to resolve simple to moderate design problems with guidance from a senior designer or engineer while developing leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise with moderate supervision. Incumbents are expected to continue to develop advanced skills and have the ability to work with moderate independence.
Duties & Responsibilities: Under direct supervision from senior designers or engineers, working in all aspects of transmission line design, will:
Create cost effective transmission line, structure and concrete foundation system designs and documentation, adhering to all applicable codes and standards.
Create accurate, clear and concise CAD drawings in accordance with the applicable CAD standards.
Check drawings for accuracy and adherence to applicable CAD and design standards and safety codes in accordance with published QA/QC Plans.
Maintain awareness of project budgets and coordinate with the senior designer or project engineer to assure that all assignments are completed on time and within budget.
With guidance, prepare accurate Bills of Material (BOM).
Display effective oral and written communication skills.
Seek continuous improvement of job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
Exhibit support of the company's goals and representation of the company in a positive and professional manner
Either: A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent) OR an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent) and 3 to 5 years of Civildesignexperience, OR no degree and 5 to 10 years equivalent Civil designexperience.
Proficiency in Autocad and/or Autocad Civil3D
Ability to perform basic engineering calculations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
A motivatedself-starterwith the ability to focus on a taskand complete it quickly and accurately.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Working knowledge of MicroStationand PLSCADD.
2 years of design experience in the electric utility industry or structural steel and concrete foundation systems
Knowledge of ArcMaps
