SC Department of Public Safety Mechanic IV-Shop Foreman (61031824) Colleton Maintenance in Colleton County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Plans, assigns, reviews disputes, and supervises the work of Mechanics who perform a variety of routine and complex repairs to both gasoline and diesel powered equipment and vehicles. Contacts correct agencies in warranty type work on new equipment. Plans, organizes and administers the Preventative Maintenance Program. Plans and participates in repairs to electrical and hydraulic systems, welding and fabrication, repairs to pneumatic systems, small equipment repairs to include chain saws and weed eaters, body work related to accidents or wear & tear, glass replacements, repairs to tires, field service calls to include towing/wrecker services, A/C repairs, utilize diagnostic equipment to diagnose mechanical failures. Assists mechanics and performs any necessary repairs to vehicles and equipment as needed. Purchases parts and supplies for use in the maintenance and repair of state-owned equipment through the use of the agency's Procurement Card and SCEIS system. Oversees the procurement of inventory items. Negotiates contractual agreements in accordance with the Procurement Policy and Procedures. Interviews potential vendors. Plans, organizes, participates and oversees maintenance on generators, pump stations, fuel systems, oil changes, car washes, acetylene/welding, wrecker/towing services, mechanical repairs performed by vendors. Must maintain spreadsheet for all Contractual Services. Performs computer skills, such as HMMS/EMM, Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), Mitchells On-Demand. Initiate close-out and approve service tickets, post daily time through HMMS/EMM. Utilizes Mitchell On-Demand labor guide when reviewing service tickets and labor charges. Oversees the Supply Specialist in receiving, storing, issuing and requisitioning supplies and equipment to include inventory items. Oversees the basic functions of the office. Maintain building and grounds of the shop area. Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels, and trains employees. Established and monitor work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork within the organization. Assists in meeting the goals and objective of our Annual Business Plan as they relate to the SCDOT Strategic Plan. Plans, organizes or trains shop employees on the proper use of shop equipment, i.e. tailgate spreaders, crash attenuators, loader/backhoes, tractor/mower combos, etc. Plans, organized, participates and oversees the waste management program to include truck wash areas, oil/water separators, parts washers, oil disposal, rag disposal, scrap metal disposal. Plans, organizes, participates and oversees safety and environmental issues of the shop. Perform annual testing of the jacks, hoist and lifts in the shop. Check to see that containers are properly labeled. Performs duties as related to the Spill Responder Team (SPCC). Perform inspections and maintain underground storage tanks and equipment related to the fuel system. Performs other duties as assigned or requested by superiors.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and five (5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
