Job Summary: The University Controller's Office is recruiting for a Business Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to authorizing routine departmental and institutional support expenditures; acting as backup for all key accounting functions; preparing and administering shared service contracts between the department and MUHA; managing University monthly shared service MUHA billing; acting as budget office liaison. Considerable knowledge of the principles and theories of accounting. Ability to analyze, interpret, and audit accounting data. Excel and extensive computer experience (databases, software and spreadsheet applications - Access, Word, PowerPoint). Skill in basic mathematical concepts. Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task a variety of functions. Experience with budget, audit, financial reporting, and accounting for fixed assets helpful. CPA or Master's in related field preferred. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work with confidential information, tact and discretion. This position will function at an executive level, using discretion to make decisions within the area of responsibility.

Payscale Salary Range: UNIV-Band 7: $49,594.00 - $70,674.00 - $91,755.00 (min - mid - max)

Job Duties:

  • 35% - Acts as the Business Manager for Controller's Area; authorizes routine departmental and institutional support expenditures. Determines correct fund sources, verifies fund balances for personnel actions and makes transfers within department funds. Acts as a backup for all key accounting functions. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Coordinates preparation of departmental service contracts and develops University/Authority Shared Services Contract annually. Oversees the invoicing of shared services with the Hospital Authority. Prepares contract to actual schedule. - (Essential)

  • 15% - Provides administrative support services for the Controller and direct reports, assuring that deadlines are identified and met. Prepares confidential memoranda, and correspondence for FMLA and reports; schedules meetings and conferences; creates and coordinates agendas, other written communication, as well as Organizational Charts and Broadcast Messages; takes, prepares and distributes minutes; develops and manages schedules for the Controller and upper management. Coordinates events/functions and retreats for the Controller’s Office, and assists with travel arrangements, IIT’s, and requisitions. Serve as a back up for other Finance Administrators as needed. - (Essential)

  • 10% - Plans complex and interrelated projects, and coordinate studies on special projects for the Controller and Senior Management. - (Essential)

  • 20% - Acts as a primary Budget Office liaison with internal customers at all levels for assigned segments of the University in relation to the budget and management of all associated fund sources. - (Essential)

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree with accounting courses and five years professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, banking or finance.
