Job Summary/Purpose : The Department of Neurosurgery is recruiting for an LPN to facilitate health care delivery in a clinical setting under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider. The LPN is responsible for assisting the provider in patient care to ensure the highest quality patient care and experience within the clinical scope of a LPN. Telework to work from home authorized during COVID period.
Minimum Training and Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and two years of related experience as an LPN. Positions in this classification require licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation. Excellent computer and typing skills. Working knowledge of an electronic medical record application. Adept knowledge of medical terminology. A team player who can follow processes to achieve a common goal. Highly organized and well-developed oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work independently under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. Ability to work with providers, other care team members, as well as with external stakeholders.
Must have experience/knowledge of EMR system, preferably EPIC; Strong typing skills (50+ wpm preferred);Ability to work under pressure with time constraints; Ability to concentrate and possess excellent listening skills; Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details; Computer literacy; and ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required. Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills (oral and written).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for monitoring activity in EPIC inbasket pools (Midlevel, Clinical, Admin) to properly triage calls and route messages to appropriate provider. Responsible for compliance with established turn-around times. Responsible for collecting data and reporting to leadership on process improvement measures.
Works with clinical team to ensure timely and accurate ambulatory clinic prep. To include confirming appointment, verifying insurance, visit type, imaging, etc. Works with Access team to appropriately schedule patients in a timely manner. Reviews weekly OR schedule and works with clinical team to ensure proper communication between patient and providers.
Coordinates patient care by working with inpatient APP team and providers to establish timely follow up care, submits documentation for pre-cert authorization. Searches for relevant information in the medical record. Verifies availability outside records and addresses patient concerns. Discusses surgical procedures and follow up care under direction of physician with patient prior to procedure. Responsible for collecting data and reporting to leadership on process improvement measures.
Receive referrals from outside physician office and ensures patients are appropriately assigned to correct provider. Works closely with Pre-Cert Office to ensure OR cases are authorized in established timeframe. Works with midlevel to team liaise the posting of OR cases. Responsible for collecting data and reporting to leadership on process improvement measures.
Call patients for follow-up and with labs results; Call in prescriptions and orders as requested by provider. Verifies that all information is correct and reports to clinical team with updates. Receive FMLA/14B documents to fill out and file within the appropriate timeframe. Responsible for collecting data and reporting to leadership on process improvement measures.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
