We're looking for an enthusiastic Human Services Specialist I who performs general work duties related to the administration of the SNAP and TANF programs in the Economic Services Division in the Bamberg County office to help restore or improve customer financial stability.
The Human Services Specialist I conducts SNAP and/or TANF quality interviews to include both phone and face-to-face interviews for SNAP and/or TANF applications and/or renewals.
Process SNAP and/or TANF applications and/or renewals by determining eligibility and authorizing benefits if applicable, and process SNAP and/or TANF six month renewals and changes by redetermining eligibility and reauthorizing benefits if applicable
Manage ABAWD (Able-Bodied Adult without Dependents) caseload by sending required notices, updating ABAWD tracking system, and determining SNAP eligibility for assigned ABAWD cases. Interprets social services programs to clients as needed.
Process system generated alerts (SNAP, TANF, ESAP, and SCCAP) for county of residence as well as any alerts associated with your caseload.
Identifies and documents overpayments and makes at least 3 possible claims referrals to the Benefit Integrity Unit; prepares supporting documents for Fair Hearings. Participates in training and supervisory meetings or staff meetings as required.
Maintains case records and files in agency designated computer system for documentation and auditing purposes as required by agency policy in a confidential, timely and accurate manner. Documents client work participation activities in agency designated system. Enters timely documentation in SCOSA of events/activities that may affect clients continued eligibility for benefits. Prepares reports as requested by the supervisor or otherwise required and follows program policies and procedures.
Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duty/services as directed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A High School Diploma and three years experience in clerical administrative, social work, correctional, business administration or general business.
An Associates Degree and one year experience in clerical, administrative, social work, correctional business administration, or general business.
Ability to interpret and apply TANF and/or SNAP federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of services available from the community and other public and private programs. Ability to organize and maintain a caseload. Ability to conduct interviews and analyze case data to make appropriate decisions. Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and communicate effectively. Ability to master required databases and systems.

A valid SC drivers license is required. Must have a high tolerance for irate clients, and crowded working conditions. Must be able to travel within the state for the purpose of training and meetings to include overnight travel.
